Professor Andrew Morris from University of Edinburgh and His Team Visited Yunnan Cancer Hospital

On December 4, Professor Andrew Morris, chief scientist of Scottish government health department, vice President of University of Edinburgh, and his team members - professor Charles Swainson, Mr.Nick Mackie visited the Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Hua Xia Healthcare Holding Limited Company bridged the two sides. Hongming Wu, vice-chancellor of Kunming Medical University, party secretary of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University. Lihua Li, vice-chancellor of Kunming Medical University. Haiyun Guo, commissioner of international cooperation and communication department, and our hospital President - Yunchao Huang and all leaders of Hua Xia Healthcare Holding Limited Company participated the communication forum. President Yunchao Huang hosted the forum. During the forum, the two sides conducted an in-depth communication and discussed cooperation affairs in healthcare training and scientific research.

The University of Edinburgh was established in 1953, as one of the oldest universities in British and it enjoys a comparable reputation with Oxford and Cambridge. With its excellent and diversified achievement in teaching and scientific research, the University of Edinburgh isworld-renowned;it ranks one of the top 50 universities in the world for several times, 21 Nobel Prize laureates were from this university. The faculty of medicine is one of the three faculties of the University of Edinburgh, as the most prestigious medical education center in the world, it ranks the 12th worldwide with its comprehensive influence, andthe sheep Dolly was cloned here. As a leading expert and chief scientist of Scottish government health department in the fields of medical care, Professor Andrew Morris devotes himself to Health informatics and chronic diseases research, achieved excellent research results in British national health insurance service quality and cost-effectiveness. He is making positive contribution to constantly improving Scottish people’s health condition.

 Professor Charles Swainson is a famous renal medicine specialist, now he is the advisor of Scottish government health department and a senior member of Chinese health care project in the University of Edinburgh. Mr. Nick Mackie is a strategic cooperation manager of the institute of population health sciences and informatics of the University of Edinburgh. He is mainly in charge of domestic and international cooperationwith other enterprises and with public department. He has always committed to the development of health care projects related to China.

During the meeting, Professor Andrew Morris specifically introduced the history of the University of Edinburgh, and teaching and scientific research results achieved by his team. He expressed their intention to build a long-term cooperative relationship with our hospital in the fields of teaching and scientific research. President Yunchao Huang said our hospital has always attached great importance to foreign cooperation and communication, it is the supporting base for several international research platforms, like the National Ministry of Education Internationally Coordinated Laboratory of Plateau Area Regional Highly Prevalent Cancer Research, Canadian academician Jie Chen workstation etc.The hospital is capable to build a strategic partnership with the University of Edinburgh, to push forward mutual development.

Our vice-president Wenhui Li introduced our achievements in recent years specifically. He said that the hospital constantly invites well-known experts from all over the world to give lectures to our medical staffs in recent years, sends outstanding researchers to study abroad. Yunnan Cancer Hospital aims to build a strong talent team through a wide range of foreign cooperation and exchange, continuously promote our medical, teaching and research abilities, and ultimately promote the development of Yunnan Province health undertaking.

        The vice-Chancellor of Kunming Medical University Lihua Li introduced the history of Kunming Medical University, and work related to teaching and research, international cooperation and communication. And he said that Kunming Medical University will exert its own advantages, and accelerate the establishment of a cooperation and exchange platform with the University of Edinburgh in several health fileds, to make greater achievements in teaching and scientific research, personnel training, medical clinical transformation, health big data analysis.

The vice-Chancellor of Kunming Medical University and deputy party secretary of the Third Affiliated Hospital Hongming Wu  pointed out that the profound communication with the three experts from Edinburgh promote the two sides reaching a preliminary cooperation agreement, it’s an unique opportunity for both Kunming Medical University and the Third Affiliated Hospital. He said, Kunming Medical University would actively create conditions to build a powerful platform for the University of Edinburgh and the Third Affiliated Hospital to enhance their cooperation, to promote the scientific research ability of the Third Affiliated Hospital, especially the enhancement of regional cancer prevention ability, ultimately achieve the goal of building a high-level cancer specialized hospital.

        After that, the three professors and experts from our hospital conducted a profound and systematize communications from three major aspects :hospital management, medical& education&research development, medical information analysis and sharing, all the people in line with the positive pragmatic and sustainable development of the cooperation spirit. After the discussion, Professor Andrew Morris visited Yunnan provincial lung cancer key laboratory and translational medicine key laboratory accompanied by President Yunchao Huang and other experts. Professor Andrew Morris and his fellows highly evaluated the hardware facilities and scientific research achievements.
