In order to promote the normative development of the radiation discipline of our hospital, further enhance its academic influence, on 19th October, radiotherapy center successfully held 2016 foreign academic exchange seminar. The well-known global radiation expert-Professor Joe Chang was invited to this seminar. The vice-Chancellor of Kunming Medical University and deputy party secretary of the Third Affiliated Hospital Hongming Wu, President Yunchao Huang, vice secretary and discipline inspection commission secretary Zhimin Liu, vice-president Wenhui Li, vice-president Jian Dong, vice-president Haijun Yang warmly welcomed Professor Joe Chang. And they listened to the Professor Chang’s lecture with dozens of internal medicine, surgery, radiation therapy experts from different major medical institutions in our province.
Professor Joe Chang is the director of thoracic cancer radiotherapy and stereotactic radiology department in MD Anderson cancer center, a tenured professor and postdoctoral supervisor of University Of Texas. He is also senior associate editor of American Journal of radiation oncology, panel chairman of American academy of radiation on lung cancer, thoracic professional committee director of international proton heavy ion therapy, chairman of China-US radiotherapy and oncology association.
Before the lecture, President Yunchao Huang encouraged local radiotherapy experts conducting an in-depth exchanges with Professor Joe Chang, learning and understanding the latest developments in radiotherapy research, to promote the development of radiotherapy discipline in Yunnan Province.
In his lecture “Combined immunotherapy and stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (I-SABR) to conquer cancer”, Professor Joe Chang showed mass of clinical data in surgical removal and stereotactic radiotherapy (SABR) in United States and Europe, stated the superiority of SABR compared with surgery in lung cancer treatment, so as to demonstrate the effectiveness of SABR with data and examples. Experts in the seminar actively proposed questions in a heated atmosphere, they said their mind was opened and thought was inspired.
After the lecture, Professor Joe Chang came to the radiotherapy department ward and conducted comprehensive treatment guidance on a patient with locally advanced non-small cell lung squamous carcinoma. Afterwards he went to the radiation room and provided a specific guidance to the medical staffs on radiation target outline operation.
